We Are Entering The FINAL FOUR!

The last four weeks of school are jam-packed with all kinds of activities!

Please keep these things on your calendar:

Tonight, Monday 2nd, is Arts Night.  Mrs. Adams students are performing their scene from A Midsummer’s Night Dream at the beginning of the program.  Mrs. Bunker’s students will be performing at 7:45.

SAGE testing will be happening Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.  Please make sure your child is here on time and well rested.

Monday, May 9th, we will be going to Cedar Middle School for our tour.  The bus will be leaving promptly at 9:00.  If you are late you will miss your chance to tour.  We will be back shortly after 10:00.

We are continuing to work on our State Reports in class.  They are due on May 18th.  Also, on May 18th we are going to be going to the aquatic center .  Please make sure your child has a well-fitting swimsuit (try last year’s on, in case it has been outgrown!) and a towel that day.  After swimming the morning away, we will go to Park Discovery for  lunch and playtime.

On May 19th students attending CMS next year can go to their open house at 6:00.  Your child will pick up his/her schedule with teacher assignment.

May 20th, our students who will be attending CVMS will tour.  A bus will come by and pick up those students.

The last week of school will be busy!  On Wednesday the 25th our students will be walking to SUU for field day.  On the 26th, Mini-mall will be held, and our last day is May 27th.  Typically, school is dismissed at 2:30 on this day.  We will confirm that as soon as we know for sure.

Busy Times in 5th Grade

It is that time of year again when life gets crazy at school.  There are several things coming up that you will want to be aware of.

*SAGE testing is underway.  It is EXTREMELY important that the students be present, on time, and ready to go each day.  We have been working on the science test this week.  Next week, every morning, we will be working on the reading, grammar, and writing.  The following week, on Wednesday and Thursday, we will be taking the math test.

*The fifth grades will be going to The Bard’s Birthday Bash this Friday afternoon (April 22).  We will be walking to SUU and performing scenes from A Midsummer Night’s dream.

*May 2nd is our annual Night of the Arts.  We will be performing our Shakespeare scenes.  Please plan to attend.  There will be flyers coming out soon with more information.

*May 9th we will be taking a tour of Cedar Middle School.  Our bus will leave promptly at 9:00, and we should return to the school by 10:15.

*May 18 the State Reports will be due.  Students will receive the requirement packet and their assigned state on Friday, April 22.

*May 19 Cedar Middle School will be hosting and open house.  Mark it on your calendars!  This evening is when your student will get his/her schedule and you can meet his/her teacher and tour the school again.

*May 20 those students going to Canyon View Middle School will leave North at 9:00 am to go tour CVMS.

*North’s annual end-of-year Mini Mall will be held during the last week of school.  Students with missing library books will not get to participate.  Students have received slips with any missing/overdue books.  You may contact our librarian, Mrs. Puckett, to make arrangements for payment or replacement.  Leaving elementary school with missing books will prevent your student  from checking out books from the middle school library.

*Yearbooks are still available for purchase at the front office.

Week of April 4-April 8

Welcome to Spring and the final quarter of 5th grade!  Things are about to get really busy!

Some of the things you will want to be aware of are

*End of Level Testing begins this month.  We will be testing Science on April 19th and 20th.   Our reading assessment will be given on April 26th, and our writing assessments will be on April 28th and May 3rd.  Finally, our math testing will occur on May 4th and 5th.  Please ensure that your child is in attendance, well rested, and has had breakfast on those days.  Also, if your child has headphones, please have him/her bring them on those days.  Each of the tests have portions where items may be read aloud.

*We will be celebrating Shakespeare’s birthday at SUU’s annual Bard’s Birthday Bash on Friday, April 22, in the afternoon.  This will be a walking field trip, and it is always a lot of fun!  We will leave after lunch and return prior to the final bell.

*Arts Night is Monday, May 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  We hope you will put this on your calendar!  Each class will be doing a performance, and there will be a piece of art from every child on display.  Dinner will be available to purchase through the PTA, and you can also purchase your child’s artwork for a $1.00 donation.  This is a terrific fundraiser that helps us keep the “A” in STEAM.  We hope to see you there!

What’s going on in class?  Well…

We are beginning to review for our SAGE tests in Language Arts and Science.  In Math we are beginning our unit on measurement. In addition,  we are working on scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream to perform at The Bard’s Birthday Bash!

On Wednesday, March 23, we will be having a groundbreaking ceremony at 12:45 to celebrate the beginning of the new building.  Parents are welcome to come celebrate with us.  To commemorate this special day, we are asking all students and adults at North Elementary to observe a special DRESS UP DAY!

Week of January 25 – 29

Space Days was a blast!  We had a lot of fun learning about space, as well as creating art projects and making new discoveries.  We are excited to read the students’ “NASA reports” on the planet they discovered.

This week we will be taking the SAGE Interim Tests again to monitor how the students are learning our curriculum.  The results should help us narrow our focus on the topics that the majority of students are still unfamiliar or struggling with.  Please make sure your child has a pair of headphones/earbuds to have at school this week, as the test has listening components and can be read to them through the computer.  We hope to complete these assessments quickly and return to our regular curriculum as soon as possible.

The 5th Grade Science Fair is Tuesday!!!  Students will need to set up their projects between 8:30-8:55.  Judging will take place between 9-10.  No one but the judges and students are allowed to be present during the judging period.  Parents and friends are welcome to come tour the projects from 2-3pm that afternoon.  Students will be cleaning up after that, and parents are welcome to take them home a little early if desired.  Please remember this is a required project assignment for the students.

Homework Packet 15 will be due on Friday.  Here is the Math Extra Credit 15 packet that is optional.

Parent conferences will take place next week February 1-5.  Look for your schedules time to come home today (Monday, Jan 25).  We look forward to meeting with your and your child!  School will dismiss at 2:30pm all week, including Wednesday.
